Interesting.
A suitcase itself might've been the Zenith's idea; their Transoceanic was a suitcase. Even if not the typewriter type.
Then again, British Special Operations had their suitcase portable transceiver made for their agents in 1941.

Mike;
There was a radio that the British issued to their agents which used a regenerative circuit, and not surprisingly if it were adjusted wrong the Germans could, and did, triangulate where it was, it was dubbed "The Spy Killer" for that reason. I think someone was trying to cut corners by using that circuit, with it re-adjusted it could be used as an RF modulator for transmitting, but that was a really bad idea as it could also radiate out of the antenna whilst receiving. But then again the British also sold the public on the idea that the radio, and later TV license crews working for the BBC were roaming the streets in vans that could pick up their TV set, and know whether they paid their license fee or not, strange people.
Happy Cristmas

It seems that the number of collectors and amateurs of old radio is gradually decreasing… How to prevent this and interest young people in this fascinating hobby? In my opinion, - only by studying and popularizing the history of radio. If you agree with this, then support this multi-part project with a like and a kind word. Thank you. So, the historical educational video series “To the 100th anniversary of radio broadcasting” started more than a year ago. In the near future I plan to continue it...

Hate tro say it, but doesn't Guglielmo look like Putin in this picture?
RE: The list of my radio & TV collection! -
RadioSvit - 12-31-2024
Yes, Michael. Outwardly, they are a bit similar, but the essence of these two people is opposite - Putin is a destroyer and a criminal, and Marconi is a creator and a mover of progress.

Peter;
You have a nice selection of 1930s era "tombstone" style table radios in that video, and fairly representative of many nationalities as well. The dials are interesting, such as using a light to indicate what band the radio is set to, as well as acting as the dial pointer. Do you have one of the Phillips "Canned Ham" style radios as well?
Happy Christmas
Happy New Year

Arran, unfortunately, I don't have this Philips model. But there are many other radios with very interesting non-standard scales. I think it's time for us to revive the interesting, but forgotten topic about radio scales. Please tell me where to look for it?

Thanks Ron. But I think there was another branch that had scales from all the radios in the world. Am I wrong?

Hi Peter, I don’t know of any other website with illuminated radio dials of other brands or locations around the world. I tried Googling but really found nothing!
