RCA 66X3
#1

Radio recommendation; I was listening to A 66X3 over the weekend, for a 6 tube table it was a sweet sounding set. Tone control is nice feature. It is probably the best sounding 6 tube set I have and have heard.

It has a funky look, though mine lost the photo finish and the zebra grille cloth, they were shot. so if you see one for short money, maybe you can add to your collection.Icon_biggrin

Some details here-

This one pictured looks sharp too.

Cool looking, needs a disco ball above it.

I think that burl finish could be easily repeated. printed on paper and glued on. As for the cloth, take some white. fold it tight like a chinese fan and dip it into dark dye for a while. Like tye dye! Dont know if it would work though.

Here is a veneer pic you could replicate

Thanks Kirk, We stripped it off and stained it, it came out good though not original. It looks very 40's though in my opinion. I will soot a pic sometime. The purists can crab at me! Though I guess you could do it over.

Hi Paul,

It looks like a cool radio.Icon_thumbup If you decide that you want to do the faux finish, try Tony @:http://www.vintageradiolabels.com/home.html
He's the guy that I got the faux for my 42-345.

That faux grain on the RCA looks sort of like they were trying to mimic an olive burl, though a walnut burl would probably look close. Other then on the curved portions you could probably use the real thing on part of it since most of it is flat. I think you could probably bend burl veneer but sharp radius bends would be tricky since the grain is going everywhere, on this it looks like there is a dividing line right below the dial.
Regards
Arran
