Unkown Transitone 1940
#1

I just bought a Transitone like the 1940 "UNKOWN" in the Gallory, for $2.24.
I'd like to hear about some more Philco mistory sets , One I'd like to know more about is the Philco cathedral in the move "Driving Miss Dasiy" the sides where made of wicker ? What was it, did anyone else see it in the movie?

I've never seen the movie, but I was told an interesting story about this radio several years ago.

It seems someone found a dilapidated old Philco 60 with the top/sides in very poor shape. This person removed the old top/sides and replaced them with wicker, and then painted the entire thing white.

Someone later bought this radio and took it to Hollywood to use as a prop; you saw it in Driving Miss Daisy.

It never left the factory with wicker sides, nor was it painted white by the factory.

I've got that Unkown Transitone, 1940, home ,it's kind of cute! I'm planing on fixing it up , OK now how can we deside what model it is ? found an open output tube heater ,loctal, can't really read the tube number 35a5? Is there a simular model?

I just looked at the Gallery ,and got my answer, it's the same as a TH 4

That was a great story by Ron. Wife and I just watched "Driving Miss Daisy" and I
saw another Philco that I figured was a Philco 37-650.
Joe Rossi of the radio museum has one.

See how dumb I am.
I should have known,
but I'm not really a Philco guy,
though I do have a few radios.
