The 513 lives!
#1

Hi everyone,
Well, I couldn't leave my hands off of it, so I rebuilt my 513 chassis and it turned out great! I was able to hide all my work so everything looks original. the hardest parts were two resistors, a 2 megohm grid leak and a 70k ohm B+ resistor. the originals were just a solid carbon resistor with brass caps on the ends and they just snap into holders. the 70k ohm resistor had doubled in value and was close to 140K and as my meter only reads up to 2 meg ohm I couldn't tell the true value on the grid leak. I ended up using some 1/4 inch diameter nylon spacers to slide the new resistors into and then I used the original brass end caps to solder the leads to. I then slipped the original cardboard tube over the spacers and I have an original looking resistor! I really enjoyed that part. Also, there was quite a bit of old rubber coated wire in this set, and I replaced all of it. I even pulled the power transformer apart and replaced the primary leads. I used cloth covered wire as it looked more correct than the vinyl wire I had on hand.
Anyway, I got her to the point of powering up tonight and she played on the first goIcon_thumbup! I listened to some vintage music off of my SStran for about 45 minutes with no problems. Will post some pics of the chassis soon.
Kevin
