Volumes level increases after a few minutes..WHY?!?!
#1

Hello all,

My newly restored Philco 610 sounds great, but I have a symptom that may need somediagnosing from you gurus.

Everything works great on the radio. It takes a bit to warm up before I get some sound. Finally, the sound comes on. Then, about 2-3 minutes after it has been running, an instant volume spike occurs, almost like it kicked into 6th gear from 1st. Please note that up until the spike the volume only goes so high no matter how far I turn the dial, so it is almost as if once the spike occurs, the volume is then at it true operating level.

Is this an issue or just an old set symptom?

Thanks again.

Hi

Have all of the paper and electrolytic capacitors been replaced? If not, they need to be. Old capacitors can fail at any time and can cause all sorts of hair-pulling symptoms.

You should also check the tubes, especially the Type 75 which is prone to producing noises similar to a thunderstorm if it is bad.
