Philco 144
#1

Hi, This is my first major recap job. I've had this radio for over 25 years. It was left for dead in a wet basement. Made new cabinet for it way back when, it always played fine until recently. I've got all the cap values worked out except for the tone control 30-4188 (.07uf, .015uf, .01uf ) . The condenser block 30-4167 (.25mfd X 3, .05mfd X 4) Cannot find any voltage ratings for either. By the way it still does play but has developed a hum, so no more playing till its repaired. This is my first time on the phorum. Thanks for any help. Don H.

Hi Don, and welcome.

Just use new capacitors rated at 600 or 630 VDC to replace the various old paper caps in the bakelite blocks, the tone control, and the multi-section can.

Also replace all of the electrolytic capacitors; afterward, you should no longer have that annoying hum.
