Do you ask this because the volume control has only 3 terminals and you are expecting it to have 4 based on the schematic?

If so, I am guessing that the body of the volume control may be the 4th terminal (ground terminal). Bolting it to the chassis would provide the ground connection.

Can't think of anything witty.

Part (45) is the volume control. Part (49) is the tone control, separate from the volume control.
