phono matching transformer
#1

Hi all, I am currently restoring a 46-1209, The radio is playing great, now the phono is dead, I thought it might be the cartridge, but I see my matching transformer is missing. Is there a modern replacement I could use for this? The riders I have is bad , and the windings look like they should be
Pri - .5 and sec - 6500? seems like a big step up, if I am reading this right.
Any ideas or suggestions are apreaciated.
Thanks
E.

Hi E.,
Bear in mind that the measurements you see on the Riders is resistance not impedance. The impedance (Z) is the important measurement when you are looking for a replacement. So with being said just for laughs you could try a tube type output transformer, speaker side to the cartridge or a small power transformer like 120vac to 24v or 36v. The low voltage side goes to the cartridge. I mention these thinking you may have them laying around. You could use a microfone input transformer. The those have a multi tap primary from 50 ohms (Z) to 500 or so.
