Philco 46-1203 Restoration
#1

Dear - Recently we unearthed my grandparent's beloved Philco radio & record player from 1946. The parts are in reasonable condition but overhaul needed. We have no experience with electronics. Thoughts on the best path forward?
Kind regards - Jim

Welcome to the Phorum, Jim! My first question is ... are you looking to learn how to restore your radio, or looking for someone to restore it for you?
If you are interested in doing the service yourself there are loads of friendly Pholks right here willing to help you along the way.
If you are looking to have someone restore it for you I would recommend you contact the Mid-Atlantic Antique Radio Club. They may be able to help you find a member close to your location to assist you. Take care and BE HEALTHY! Gary

This being family heirloom, I'd say, get someone to do it for you.
This is tubes, it has high voltages, it involves many things, including alignment, that requires some equipment, so unless it is your intent to get into this hobby (and this could get expensive), my vote is for finding someone who does it for others.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Morzh has good advice. If you opt for DIY you will need to learn some electrical fundamentals, soldering technique, know how to use a digital volt meter, buy or find access to a signal generator and read a schematic. Here’s a link from our library to your schematic
