Phorum How-To #11: Thread View Options
#1

Go to your User CP, then click or tap the Edit Options link.

In this lesson, we are going to examine the Thread View Options box (middle right).

If you want your Phorum to emulate phpBB mode - with the users' names, avatars (if used) and user info on the left and their posts on the right, which is similar to the view used at the Antique Radio Forum - select or tap the checkbox labeled Display posts in classic mode. But if you are happy with how the Phorum looks as is, leave this box unchecked.

To see images in posts, leave the checkbox labeled "Display images in posts" checked. Unchecking this box will make all images in posts disappear (for you).

To see videos in posts, leave the checkbox labeled "Display videos in posts" checked. Unchecking this box will make all embedded videos in posts disappear (for you).

To see users' signatures, leave the checkbox labeled "Display users' signatures in their posts" checked. Unchecking this box will make users' signatures disappear (only to you).

A signature is the bit of text under a user's post, by the way. Some users have various info in their signatures, while many have no signature at all.

If you want to see users' avatars, leave the checkbox labeled "Display users' avatars in their posts" checked. If you uncheck this box, you will no longer see anyone's avatars.

Do you like the Quick Reply box at the end of every thread? If so, leave the checkbox labeled "Show the quick reply box on the view thread page." If you don't care for the Quick Reply box or do not use it, you may uncheck this box.

Next, as seen above, you are presented with a drop-down box to choose your preferred number of posts to view in a thread.

The default is 15. If you want to see more, or less, choose accordingly from the drop-down box as shown above.

Finally, you are asked to choose (via drop-down box) how you want to view threads - by thread view, linear view, or default.

The default here is Linear. If you choose Threaded (which is not recommended), you will only see one post per page, with a clickable thread view under the post (and under the "Quick Reply" box if you have this enabled). This thread view emulates the view as used in the Nostalgia Air forum. Again, I suggest you leave this set at Use Default or Linear, but it is ultimately up to you as to which view you prefer.

As always, when you are finished with your changes, click or tap the Update Options button at the bottom or else your changes will not be saved.

Thanks. These show and tells are easy to understand.

What are the "other options" at the lower right -- redirect and mycode?
