Hello everyone,
i am trying to recap a 46-1201 & i finally got the recap kit. I am going by the schematic i downloaded from Nostalgia air, & am having a big problem trying to figure out which cap replaces what. The kit has 152 k, 103 k, 503 k, 104 k, 204 k, 0.25 ufk 275 V, 0.05 ufk 275 V, 15 uf 160V, & 10 uf 250 V; looking at the Rider schematic, i see the L1, c15, c22, c11, c13, c17, c4, & c12 are condensers---but it does not list the mfd or voltage for the condensers. What is 103k, 152 k etc mean in mfd? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Diyahnih
With these types of numbers, the first two digits signify the value of the component; the third digit signifies how many zeros follow the value.
The parts are rated in pF (mmF or uuF). Here is how the parts in your kit break down:
152 = 1500 pF = .0015uF
103 = 10000 pF = .01 uF
503 = 50000 pF = .05 uF
104 = 100000 pF = 0.1 uF
204 = 200000 pF = 0.2 uF
The "0.25 ufk" and "0.05 ufk" should be equal to 0.25 uF and 0.05 uF.
And, finally, uF = mfd.

103K would be .01 MFD. Just add the number of zeros, in this case 3, to the end of the first 2 numbers then count back 6 decimal places to get the value.
I.E. 103K would be 10000, then count back 6 places to get .01.

Sounds like you probably got a recap kit from Dave at Just Radios. Good guy. The cap values are shown on the schematic, eg:C20 is a 20 mfd filter cap (watch the polarity on the electrolytics). The old caps are usually marked to verify value and voltage. Good luck.

Thanks for the help, Ron, Jim, rickd. now i know where they go & the 103k to mfd. . This info has helped me greatly. I am awed that after 60 + years, the original condensers & wiring are in very, very good condition.
