Philco 50
#1

Here's another radio I can't remember if I shared here or not, a little model 50. This radio is all complete, with the 47 and 80 tubes looking and testing almost like new. I finally wired up a temporary power cord to this evening and it seems the power transformer is ok. It's under the chassis, so I can't tell much. Brought it up slowly and could hear our local AM station very faintly with the volume up all the way. I didn't press things further though. This radio was practically hiding in the shadows of an antique shop I visited a few years back. All the old radios I kept finding in that area were gutted or repurposed. No wonder this one was trying to hide!

No matter where you go, there you are.

Nice one! I'm working on a 50 at the moment that came in a 70 cabinet. Not too hard to recap but all but one of the resistors were also out of spec so check them all.

I am not a fan of the design but I think some GoJo would clean that up real nice...
