Refaux Pro
#1

Hello all,

My first time posting here.

Does anyone know what happened to the Re-faux Pro guy?  Was going to order a water slide photo finish for my Philco 37-620 cabinet, but the Re-faux site is gone and no response to the e-mail address I got from the wayback machine Internet archive of his site.

Does anyone know if there are any other persons or companies that offer a similar product?

Thanks

I think they have been gone for a few years now. Their product was nothing to brag about but it was a little bit better than nothing. Haven't seen any folks that are reproducing the photofinish decals. On ones that most of the decal is still intacked I've done some artistic work to recreate what was there.
Obtw Welcome to the Phorum. Sorry I didn't have better news.

I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

I don't know about other companies, but a guy named Stewart Schooley developed a way for home DIY'ers to make their own faux woodgrain and print it. If you google his name you should find the process. I've done it .... it works.

Okay thank you.  I will check it out.  Have a good one and thanks again.

I used Refaux Pro to redo the cabinet of a 37-61 I restored. here is a link to the thread showing before and after pictures. The decals were not easy to put on, and the original ones he sent did not fit right. I ended up actually sending him my cabinet so he could measure it and get the decals right. He then sent it back with a set of decals that were proper dimensions. They were still a bear to put on right since they came in two parts and I had to match them up perfectly along the center rib of the speaker and down the front of the radio. I think, were I to do something like this again, I might just opt to use the instructions on the main website here for doing ones own faking of the original faux finish.

Love the RCA 66X3. The L shaped dial glass is cool. Mine lost the photo finish. I have mixed feelings about it, nice stye though and the veneer on the top in a V shape is sharp. I have seen cases done in a method not unlike yours that have have come out very sharp. Great technique. Paul
