Sonora RBU-175 Low Band Issues
#1

Hello Fellow Radio Heads. I have ventured from the world of Philcos to try and expand my knowledge of all radios in general. I have a Sonora RBU-175 that I have re-capped all but the bigger filter caps. The radio appears to be aligned just fine as any station above 950 comes in good and loud and appears to be dead on accurate. My issue is as soon as I go below 950, I seem to loose any type of reception. I get absolutely no type of sound......nothing. Is there a definitive line between upper and lower bands that I may be able to Isolate maybe a loose connection, Bad resistor or at this point.....ANYTHING, LOL. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Likely problem is that the plates of the tuning cap are shorting as the capacitor is meshed.

You are a freaking Genesis. I have been sitting in front of this thing for 6 hours and I wound it down all the way and sure enough, I found a bent fin. Straightened it out and Bingo, Got tone all the way down. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
