Current limiter in a speaker?
#1

Can someone explain this? Does the screw on the spider limit the movement of the voice coil?

Could it be part of a repair, where that particular part just happened to fit the bill?

I don't hold with furniture that talks.

It appears that someone used a panel control label as a washer. The screw is to allow the voice coil to be centered around the magnetic pole. Can't see how a mechanical fastener would have any connection to vc current. Maybe someone else will have more to say. Maybe the screw kept coming loose from all the bass notes.

Yeah that's what I think. A piece of something just fit.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

So, it looks like the consensus is a broken spider. I went ahead and bought the speaker, so I'll know more when I get it. Might be able to replace the spider without reconing, I hope. Or maybe do nothing if it works the was it is. Seller says field coil is O.K.

I thought maybe this might have been one of those rare engineering experiments.
