Philco 650 MX

I just recently got a 650MX and the lid does not open properly. When closed the release button releases the lid but it only opens about an 1/8". I checked the mechanism and it is free and the spring is properly tensioned. Once the lid is opened about an inch then the spring will open it the rest of the way. Obviously there is something wrong with mechanism, but without seeing one that works properly it is hard to figure out what the problem is. Access to the mechanism is almost impossible without removing the speaker and chassis. So before I dive into it, I'm hoping for some advice.

As I look at your photo I can see the right side of the door is slightly lower than the left. Maybe this is binding the hinge or the hinge is slightly bent. Take a closer look at that. Does the rest of the cabinet look that good? Nice one!

Good eye, unfortunately that is just the way the picture came out.  Here is a better picture of the whole radio.
