B Eliminator by France Engineering Cleveland - circuit needed
#1

Hello,
I have a B eliminator power supply made by France Engineering Cleveland, Ohio.  Would like to restore the wet capacitor, which appears to be multi-sectional.  Anyone heard of this company? Would like to obtain a circuit re: the value of those individual capacitors. Found a reference re: battery chargers made by this company but nothing related to power supplies.

The cap is Mershon, generally 8mf but may have a section in some radios up to 18mf. I replace the entire cap with a vegetable can (so I have a platform for a terminals strip). One could install insulated feed through into the can and mount caps inside. In view that modern caps only have 5 yr life easy access for replacement is desirable.

Gutting the Mershon is a fool's folly as well as messy and serves no purpose other than to brag "yes I can, can" Icon_smile)

If the chokes can be measured and are around 30hy, 2-4mf is fine. At that value metalized will be O.K. and have an unlimited life. In the 20's, accomplishing 4 mf in a paper cap was done with multiple .5 units

Mounting a perfboard or a double terminal strips with brackets will make for a neat repair. Arranging the cylindrical metallized in even, "cord-wood" rows..

As always, when suggesting:

YMMV...

Thank you David. I too have been checking in radio literature and looking at https://worldradiohistory.com in particular.

what i'm looking for now is anything on model M814 condensers by Mershon. I think it might mean 8 mfd total (2 mfd on each anode).

Thanks again.
