Philco 50-920, Code 123 C4 Fixed Trimmer
#1

Restoring this unit, and finally found the Code 123 documentation.  Question:  C4 temp comp. Fixed trimmer is 13 picofarad, as the change indicates.  Is this a tubular mica of some sort, and do I really need to replace it?  Same question for C6, 47 pF on the 50C5 tube.

For these types of radios, I always replace all wax caps and resistors.

This is my first post on this group.  THANKS MUCH Icon_biggrin

You do not replace ceramic or mica caps, unless you have some reason to believe they are bad.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Thanks much! I suppose, because of the stated values in pF, that they are mica?

If tubular (an empty small cylinder) - they are likely ceramic. A photo would help.
Mica caps are typically rectangular, while ceramic can be anything, disc, rectangular and tubular.
(strictly speaking, mica are ceramic caps, but usually they stand apart)

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
