[split] Newbie questions RE: Philco 41-608
#16

Honestly, I do not see any capacitors, but as long as you know now, what the wiper is, this is all that matters.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

The hum has been resolved.  Thanks to John (MrFixr55).  He was a huge help!
Turns out I had the negative leads on caps 21A and 21B switched (Check my drawing at the beginning of the thread). The negative lead of 21B (the one that goes to the RECT 7Y4) should go to the 4th terminal from the left of resistor 77.
Once I made that switch the hum was gone.

Thanks again John!

I actually fixed one?? Sorry folks, I won' let it happen again!

Seriously, I was happy to help, but your perseverance is what fixed it. This is not an easy radio to work on, what with all the decaying rubber wire. Enjoy it, it is likely a rather good performer, and congrats on your success in returning a piece of history to working condition!

Now, onward to the next one!!

From now on you are hereby banned from passing any sound judgement on any matter concerning electronics and are only allowed to write poppycock and balderdash.
Anything you say now is supposed to get people electrocuted, burnt and scared crapless.

On behalf of all the folks you've mentioned.
