philco model 60 help needed
#1

I need some help.

1. Someone connected a 0.047 cap from the tone control to the 42 tube. What is the purpose of this and is it needed. The schematic does not show anything there but there is a wire from the tone control.

2. The wave band selector is missing a connection from the brown black resistor. Where should this wire go?

3. I would like clarification of where all the filter condenser bank caps go and the best place to ground them.

I have rebuilt all the bakelite blocks and I am stuck on the above three questions. Hopefully I did everything else right Icon_rolleyes Someone really hacked this one. Icon_sad I have the schematic but have a hard time following it.

I can't wait to hook it up to the variac and give it a try once I get over the stumbling blocks.

thanks
Chris

Hi Chris

I can help you on some of this...

1. No, the extra .047 uF cap should not be in the tone control circuit, and should be removed. There are two capacitors inside the tone control - .01 & .015 uF. These are the only caps in the tone control circuit, and should be replaced if you have not done so already.

2. You must mean resistor (1), 10K, which connects across two terminals of the band switch, with wires from each end of the resistor also going to the antenna coil.

3. Sounds like you need a photograph of a known good, or properly wired, Model 60 chassis. Unfortunately I am not in a position right now to furnish such a photo (I have a Model 60 chassis, but it is not here with me).

Bear in mind also that there were a lot of changes made to the Model 60 chassis over its three-year production run. So much so that I posted an "Evolution of the Model 60" page on my website.

Ron,
If you do have a chassis and have the time, a picture would really help me. Did you get my e-mail on the 84 trade?
thanks

Chris - received, and replied. Icon_smile

It may be awhile before I can get a picture of a 60 chassis to you, but I shall do so as soon as I possibly can.
