need help identifying chassis model #

Hello fellow vintage radio restorers!! I am new here, but not new to restoring vintage tube radios from the 1920s-early 50s of many different brands & models TRFs- early,late superhets. We have over 100 completely restored radios in our collection including several nice Philco models also.Anyways, my wife brought home a family-heirloom Philco "chassis only" that her older bro gave to her that was separated from its orig small console cabinet many yrs ago. I have looked thru all my JF Riders, and noticed that all Philco models were'nt covered. I have narrowed the search down to closest schematic I have, but it is still not the identical circuit. What I have, is a 1937-38 Philco 6-tube chassis ( with RF subchassis) tube lineup: (2-6K7,1-6A8,1-6K7,1-5Y4 rectifier,& 1-6F6, and remnants of the orig "shadow tuning indicator" orig Philco part #45-2189 ( missing all hardware that it originally attached too, and it's lens? possibly part of the orig escutcheon glass dial cover in orig cabinet?) The closest Riders schemat I have that resembles this chassis is the Philco mod 37-2620, however, this chassis has no phono-input connector, and the #37-2620 doesnt have "shadow tuning". Perhaps I need to purchase a schematic not avail in Riders that covers this "mystery" model??? Of course, the orig field-coil spkr & transformer, orig dial bezel, has all disappeared in the past, and I need info on all those orig-specs as well as parts missing that mounted the orig shadow tuner either to chassis or the bezel? As remembered from wifes brother, the orig console cabinet had "rounded" top corners, and the orig spkr-assembly mounted underneath the chassis similar to the Philco model #37-624-J shown on this website in the photos section. Sorry for this LONG first-time post here!! Any and all help is very-much appreciated for proper model # of this particular Philco chassis before I start working on it. Sincerely, Randal

Try Model 37-630X. Six tubes and a shadowmeter.

The shadowmeter originally attached to the escutcheon in 1937 and 1938 Philco models. There were two clips that held it in place on the escutcheon; these clips were part of the escutcheon.

Thanks Ron!! That must be the proper schematic diagram since no other place to mount the orig shadowmeter except the escutcheon area!! What looks different on my JF Riders print, is the "absence" of the orig Philco bakelite condenser on the AC linecord (as compared to Philco model 37-2620 JF Riders schematic. This chassis has that Philco bakelite condenser mounted towards rear of chassis,just as Philco model 37-2620 has, & the JF Riders doesnt show it on the model 37-630X you suggested. Also, I am comparing this set to JF Riders model 37-630 in orig volume#7. No mention of model 37-630 "X" model in the orig JF Riders index pages. Perhaps, it is just a different cabinet-style? Would you suggest I just follow the JF Riders Philco model 37-630 schematic, and just add restoration to the Philco AC line cord bakelite cap also? I have the "Philco Condensers & More" book here in the shop. That bakelight cap looks orig to the set also!!! I looked closely at the Riders model 37-630 schemat before I posted here. That 1 bakelite cap is throwing me off, and it is original inside the chassis!! I also need orig spkr field coil resistance data,( should be on Riders schemat?),probably not! Also,which orig cab with proper escutcheon data to search for, to properly restore this Philco back to orig if I can find all the parts? In the past, I have had to purchase separately old "factory service manuals" that cover all the data I am seeking. That may be the case with this receiver, although I will get it working eventually by "subbing" a temporary spkr trans & field coil temp 10 watt wirewound resistor to get a good match just to get the set operational again.The spkr in this radio has 4-wires instead of 3 on many Philco sets. I will research them further to incorporate a spkr field coil and test the set with a PM spkr. Thanks again Ron for sending me in the proper direction!! Anymore data you could provide, or further help in restoring this Philco family-heirloom, would be much appreciated!! The Philco Phorum ROCKS!!! Sincerely, Randal
