My New Phil(co)-Silver set :) :)
#1

I got the cabinet shown below on ebay today. It is/was a 38-116 that was cut short and had a maple top board added. Currently it houses a 12" Jensen SG220 speaker, what ever that is.

Concurrently, I have had a fellow up in Wisconsin restoring my McMurdo Silver Masterpiece 2 set, which is a 2 chassis 12 tube set circa 1933 or so. It uses 2-2B6 output tubes, making it a late model version. The chrome on the main chassis and its cover box are stunning and it was really made by the Hallicrafter company with a dual dial arrangement. I think the left side dial is a fine tuner. The main chassis will sit proudly on top of this cabinet. I have been wondering if the Philco clarifiers would work too if added in this combo.

Anyway, my guy last week was able to get the MP 2 working and told me it a really HOT player too. Thanks to Norman Braithwaite for supplying the missing schematics to pull it off too.

The plan is for the Phil-Silver to go into my McMurdo room (aka my living room) where it will get played in rotation with the others in the room. I play a different set each day and the spot I have picked out currently has a very nice Scott I got from forum member Mike via Ron Ramirez's referral.

The 38-116 cabinet is very large but so is the reserved parking spot for it.
I will have to modify the cabinet by adding a lower shelf for the amp
and mounting of the 12" Jensen pedistal speaker but should not be too difficult. Note even the pedistal stand on the speaker is chromed too.

I also need some V chevron grill cloth or something similar to make it more Philco-ish too.

Wow, that's swell!

And in my opinion an accurate example of one way they would have come up with an acceptable "cabinet" for the Silver.

That speaker looks similar to the one that came with the EH Scott AW12 I got back in May, except it has the Scott decal on the back, of course. It's more similar to that than to the speaker I had with the AW15. I assume then that my speaker is a Jensen.
