Are all 116X electrolytics negative ground?
#1

I've finally caught up a bit and gotten back to the 116X. My eyes are getting funny and I'm driving myself nuts trying to trace the schematic so before Jack Daniels and I settle in for the night, are all 116X electrolytics negative ground? The radio played and then I replaced the electrolytics. Now it hums and with the variac set at 90 volts, the ammeter slowly climbs up and goes past 3 amps before I shut it down. Nothing smokes or acts goofy otherwise. I've tripled checked (and more) the lytics and they seem to be installed correctly, hence the question, do I have one (or more) bass ackwards?

All are negative ground save one: the 10 uF, 100 volt cap connected from B- (center tap of high voltage secondary) to ground. That one has its positive lead going to ground, and the negative lead to B-.

Before I hit the "Post Reply" button, one clarification: Caps (103) and (104) have their negative leads going to B-.

Thanks Ron, much appreciated. I think I'll let my head clear for a day and tackle it tomorrow evening. Icon_smile

Dan Double conversion is using two IF converters instead of one. This improves the image response. morzh — 07:15 PM
