Philco 65 Dial cord/cable question
#1

Hello All, I have a well restored Philco 65, but I notice that one of the two metal cable that drive the dial/ganged condensers around is fraying. I haven't been able to find any info about how to get the assembly out and replace the cable in such an early model. It's ok for now so I'm not going to mess with it, but for future reference, does anyone have any info/literature on that?

Thanks,
Ken

Best thing to do is make sure that the tuning cap is lubed and moves easly. And hope it doesn't break. I replaced both of them on my model 87 awhile back, It's a bit of a pita.

Thanks Terry, I can see that it would be a pain to fix. Do you have to take the whole ganged condenser out to replace the cable? There must have been some Philco literature about how to do it, but I cant find any dial string info going back that far.

Have you tried McMaster-Carr or Grainger for braided cable?
Googleing may help too. I'm sure it's still available.

Hi Ken
You do have to remove the rotor from the tuning condenser but the tuning condenser can stay on the chassis.
