tranistone speaker
#1

New guy here and new to redoing old radios. I picked up an transitone 42-PT-96 to start on. It plays but the original speaker cone is gone and someone placed an 1 1/5" (permanant magnet) speaker in it. Anyone help with a part or type number or point me in the right direction? Could also use a schematic. I can find PT-88 through 95 but no 96.
Thanks

You will find a copy of the schematic here:

Thanks Carl.
I have been told that I can replace the speaker with a PM type and replace the field coil with a 10 watt resistor in the 500 ohm range. Does this sound right? The schematic does not list a value on the field coil.

Scott,
The PT-42 schematic is similar to the PT-96 and it shows a value of 500 ohms for the field.
If you use a PM speaker, you will need to also use the output transformer from the original speaker.
If your old speaker just needs reconed, many people recommend Hank Brazeal. Contact info can be found in this thread:

Thanks for verifing that. The speaker cone was missing when I picked the radio up but the field coil and output transformer where there. I have 8 other radios that I like to listen to but have noticed their performance decreasing through use. I picked this radio up on ebay for practically nothing to practice my restoration skills before digging in to the others but found it in better shape than I thought. Would like to restore it to it's original glory. Still looking for an original speaker before I go that route.
Scott.
