Transitone PT-63 Project Modification
#1

I am just now getting into electronics and I found a Transitone PT63. Was wondering if the Phorum would know about the four prong cable coming from the back. What is it? Can it be converted to a modern power cable? Also I am interested in converting the input and output into a 1/4" jack? I want to use it as a tabletop tube preamp.

That four prong cable is for a battery pack - the PT-63 is a battery-operated portable radio.

You might want to find something else for your project.

I think this set would be completely useless for making into a pre amp, you could do it but it's like a shovel with a rope handle. If you want a tube pre amp either find an old factory built one or start collecting parts and build one from scratch. I often suggest pulling the tube amp out of a junked cabinet stereo from the early 60s, there are lots of those units around and most people can't even give them away if they are rough cosmetically.

Arran
