Got a Philco 81A catherdral set on the bench. Have found model 81 info abound. Is the 81 "A" Canadian ? It has the monster transformer in it (25Hz). Aside from the transformer it appears to be identical. Is that a safe assumption?

Yep. The A version has the monster transformer.
Set is the same otherwise. Maybe diff values
for p.s. electrolytics due to different filtering
freq and ripple.
