I just saw that on e-bay and since in appearance itg is exact same as 38-15 I decided to look at the sch.
So it is, give opr take, the AA5 version of 38-15.

Why woud they do both in the same year?

Just to make 38-15 cheaper?

Maybe they were marketing the 38-14 to areas that still had DC power but with the ability to run on AC power as well? I don't know, just a guess. Did you notice the SW band on the 38-14 is not the same as a 38-15?

Oh, and in case you were thinking about using a 38-14 speaker in a 38-12 or 38-15, you can't...the 38-14 speaker's field coil resistance is around 3000 ohms or so (don't have a schematic in front of me so I'm guessing).

You can replace the speaker in a 38-14 with a PM speaker and safely omit the resistance as the field connects between B+ and B-. The field coil in the 38-14 is only there to excite the speaker, it does not do anything else in the radio circuitry.

No I am not trying to sub the speaker; the one I have works just fine; I did not even expect it to sound so decent. After all it is not a HiFi radio, it is a small table set, but it sounds fairly good.

Yes the SW is from 2 to 8MHz and in 38-15 it is 5.5 to 19 MHz. Wonder why.
