tuning question
#1

Hi All;
I ask this question because I am unsure.. Which is the Tuning Capacitor set at for about 600KC, is it mostly open or mostly closed (plates meshed together) ??
When I have my Tuning cap mostly closed (plates meshed together) I have my Oscillator at 1010KC, but If I am at the wrong end of the Dial, then I need to reset my Oscillator with the tuning Capicator set almost fully open for my 1010KC.. I am happy that I can get this to operate at all on the Breadboard setup..
I have both the RF coil and the 1C6 converter tube and the Oscillator coil, as well as my Tuning Capicator all on the Breadboad.. My Oscillator coil is one I wound on a Blank (junk) form.. And the fact that it is working at all is encouraging.. I figure I need to get it working correctly on the Breadboard, before subbing parts from the Radio or trying to make this part of the Radio work.. I can make my trial and Error progress on the Breadboard first, it is much easier to change things arround..
THANK YOU Marty

Fully closed is ~530 KHz. Fully open would be between 1500 and 1700 KHz, depending upon design. 1010 would generally be just a bit past the middle, toward the high end. I've found the middle to generally be around 950 or so. These of course are very course approximations, usually one would use the dial scale on the radio. If the dial scale is attached to the cabinet, you can place a piece of tape on the dial scale, pencil in the primary frequencies, then move the piece of tape to the chassis.

Hi All;
THANK YOU Brenda Ann, that is exactly what I need to know.. So I have it correct.. Sorry about the confusion about the 1010KC, that is the Frequency that I have my Oscillator set to, If my math is correct..
1010KC - 460KC (IF Frequency) == 600KC.. or 600KC + 460KC = 1010 KC.. Right now I am persuing why I am NOT getting a louder tone from the Audio Amplifier, than I am..
I found out why my audio wouldn't go thru, I had the "Tone Control" on the wrong setting, the tone control was filtering out the Audio "HUM" I was sending to the Radio..
I can now send from my 1st IF all the way thru the Radio, but not a signal fed from the "RF" Grid of the mixer Tube, it comes thru but very weak..
THANK YOU Marty

Hi All;
I can now get the signal from my Oscillator to come thru the Plate, Via a Capacitor to my scope.. So the Oscillator signal is being passed thru..
Now to find out what or why the "RF" signal is not going thru or maybe not strong enough signal to affect the outcome..
THANK YOU Marty
