I would just like to know....

Well guys... My favorite Philco in my radio collection is my 38-116 console. How many of you collectors and restorers have had this radio in your collection? This radio is such an important radio in my collection because of the way it plays and the radio cabinet is huge in size.I know 20,000 of these radios were made but how many do you guys have in your collection? I know I can ask this question because we have a lot of important collectors in this forum. Icon_think

I have one nice radio.

I've had a couple of these pass through my hands. I do not own one now.

I did not ever get as far as getting either of my 38-116 sets playing but I have restored one or two for others. Very nice radios, very smooth sounding, and sensitive as well.

For a while, I had a 37-116 that was a daily driver. It, too, was a great performer. I sold it several years ago.

I have one in my collection and the last I heard a retired teacher I know has an even nicer one in his collection. He got it after seeing mine.

No matter where you go, there you are.

I have a Model 90L Lowboy console and I had it setup at the previous house with a "radiator" ground and a random long-wire antenna out to a tree in the yard, with a lightning arrestor and a short coax lead-in. I was DX-ing all over NA and Canada at night with that simple superhet, loving it. Granted, separating close stations was tough, but every clear-channel station was hard to miss, and a added a few new catches here and there. Antique Fun. :-)

I have a 38-116 and it is my very favorite set as far as performance. The sound of this radio is phenomenal. We listen to this set almost every night playing CDs through our AMT 3000 transmitter filling the room with Big Band music for a couple of hours each night.

I am very interested in seeing how my newly acquired 38-690 stacks up as soon as I get it restored.

I really would like to tell you I still canot believe how this radio performs. I would hate to think of how many of these sets went along the curbside for the smaller table top radios....What a shame.
