Motorola 77X-M22
#1

I could resist hitting the $39 BIN on this blonde AM/FM Motorola circa 1948.

It's been partially recapped in the recent past judging by the caps used. It works fine on AM but only got sound for one brief instance on FM. Wonder why they didn't replace all the paper caps ?

Not only does it look nice on it's own, it's also a great match with my 1948 blonde VT-71 Icon_biggrin

Thanks. I'm amazed at how nice the plastic dial is - no warping at all Icon_smile

That is one NICE unit! The design, clean condition, and it being AM/FM would have me hitting the "buy me now" button also. Very cool radio! Thanks for showing us.

Yes, for the FM band there are three ganged slugs that move in and out of coils. Here's a closer look.

Finally, here it is powered up. Turns out the FM band works fine. Problem was I had the variac turned down to 105 VAC Icon_redface Brought it up to 117 and the FM started working fine.

Not my cup of tea, but a neat set! I especially liked the TV and radio together. Icon_thumbupIcon_thumbup

Since it's a post war set the chances are that they used an improved plastic for the dial so warping an shrinkage is less of a possibility. You see this with pre war verses post war Philco sets that used that rectangular combination dial escutcheon and speaker grille, the post war ones do not shrink, crack, or warp unless abused.

Interesting that you included the photo of the 56T21 here. It reminded me that I also have one of those in Walnut and one in Blonde. I should probably dispose of the Blonde model sometime.
