Philco 41-240 project.
#1

Okay I'm a noob to this Site and the Vintage radio sence. So I recently came to own a Philco 41-240 radio. My father bought the radio at a yard sell about 10 years ago or so. My parents had it in their house for a while. I don't think the radio worked since my dad bought it. For some reason they put the radio out in their storage building. My father passed away a couple of years ago and while going through the storage building I found the radio. It had been out of weather, but I think some moisture got to the unit. The cabinet had some of the veneer that had split and the plastic escutcheon was warped, and the top was starting to separate. Luckily the cabinet was structurally sound and dial glass was in good shape, and it had all four knobs.

Fast foward and I have gotten the veneer fixed, the cabinet re-stained, and new top made. I also made a new escutcheon made out of wood. I know it's not original, but I could not straighten the plastic escutcheon, and could not find a replacement. I've cleaned up the chasis. I don't not have it in working condition yet, may do that down the road.

I'm waiting on decals and grill cloth to come in. So anyway while cleaning chassis the tuner dial cord broke. Wherecan I get a replacement and can anyone tell me how it is supposed to run.

Sorry this is so long, just wanted to give a little history on my project.

Welcome to the Phorum. You can get dial cord here: http://www.radiodaze.com/category/703.aspx . As for stringing it I don't see it listed in the 1947 SAMS dial stringing booklet ( http://www.theoldradiofixerupperguy.com/...0cord.html ) but perhaps someone who owns a 41-240 or 245 can take a look and help out.

Thanks for the welcome to the forum everyone. Hope to learn a lot from everyone here.

Mafiamen2 were you asking for pics of the original plastic escutcheon or my attempt at a homemade escutcheon? Currently I don't have pictures of either.I'll try to get some soon.

Today I just got a Fairbanks-Morse radio that I found in my fathers storage building. Not sure of the model right now. This one might be a tougher project, the cabinet is rough shape, and its going to need a new dial glass/plastic, and possibly a new dial. It has all the knobs and the tuner does work.

Just wondering if this is the correct dial for my 41-240. This is the dial/glass that was in the radio when I started to take everything apart. Looking at other pictures of 41-240's online it appears that the dials are different than what I have. The one I have has vertical gold and brown stripes on the sides, and gold stripes on the top and bottom of the dial, the writting is in white. Just wondering if this is a correct dial or has someone changed out the dial with one from another model?
