I do not want my opinion to count as binding (this 90 is also mine) - the sole reason for the work for me was the crack in the base trim, but if you think modt finish is OK, would it make sense to fix the bas molding and the columns and be done?
All in all, I know exactly deedly squat about cabinet repair so....opinions of other folks who have done this a lot should be solcited.
Don't know if this is possible, but you might be able to strip the molding, tone it, lightly sand the arch and face (maybe 320 or 400 grit) just to smooth out the clear finish that is still there but not go into the toner, and then coat the entire cabinet with clear gloss lacquer and rub out??? I think I've read threads from some of the more experienced folks who have refinished only portions of a cabinet. Some of them will surely also comment.
That guy who sold it to me (not on the cheap either) was very proud of his restoration. Both cabinet and electrical. The ectrical part was not that great. Which should've told me something about the cabinet.
Took the face and 1000 grit sanded the pre-existing finish. Then cleared the face. the re-flow worked pretty well. It has the look of age but the protection of a new piece. What do you think Mike?
As for the cabinet I taped off all the parts I will keep original and meticulously stripped all the molding. Glued and filled a few problem spots and tomorrow I will tone the cabinet.
What toner was used for the 90 trim? same as the 70?
I think you know your s..t and I don't know your s..t so my opinion is that of a total layman (this is polite firm of a dummy) and I trut you (this is what people probably say to their brainsurgeon before he makes them in his personal zomby servants).
