39-25 cabinet restoration
#1

A while back I started on a 39-25 and posted some in the electronics section but got sidetracked into working on the cabinet.  I wasn't sure if this one was going to clean up.  Here is the as received photo:

Grungy dial cover:

Chassis and dial cover removed:

The corner got banged up with a loss of glue block and veneer:

The cabinet actually cleaned up pretty well with some Citristrip:

The dial cover also cleaned up with some scrubbing but that takes it down to the brass instead of the original gold/brass paint.  Thanks to Bob Andersen's youtube video I knew what to do:

This was my second attempt at veneer repair and it seemed to come out reasonably well.  The glue block fix was pretty straight forward:

There was a black water stain on the top of the cabinet...probably somebody's plant stand in the past Icon_sad  but it cleared up with an oxalic acid treatment:

After toner and the first coat of clear its beginning to look much better:

I'll post a final photo when the chassis is finished and the final lacquer rub out is done.

Excellent job Icon_thumbup I'm glad you were able to benefit from my experience restoring a very similar 39-30.
