A miserly TV legend gives a Philco TV
#1

This is an interesting picture of Jack Benny. Dated June 19, 1948, the caption reads: "TO REWARD CAMPAIGNERS, Jack Benny gave a Philco table model television set for the winning Parent-Teacher Association in the Plain Dealer-Parent-Teacher Association Milk Fund Campaign which officially opened yesterday. Mayor Thomas A. Burke, right, is shown with Benny at the opening." The television is one of Philco's first, a model 48-1001 with a 10" screen. It would be over 2 years until Benny appeared on the small screen as host of his own show (in October 1950).

And I wish Iwas.

And he died 40 years ago.... December 26, 1974. He was 80, but several newspaper obituaries couldn't resist having a headline that read "Jack Benny Dies at 39".
