What should I do here?
#1

Ok so you all know I got that 45 butterfly and rebuilt it. Mike did my chassis and she looks good and plays great.

I recently came into another 45 cabinet only. It is complete and just needs a new finish. The one I restored had nothing salvageable but the top molding from the top, Front was dead except for the veneer but I had a good bottom good grill cloth, and ok sides.

The only issue as I found out now from looking at the new cabinet is that someone cut the bottom front molding of my rebuilt one flat and it should have a 45 degree angle to the floor.

My dilemma is this, do I take my chassis and put it on the new cabinet or leave it in  the one I already re-did?

The original one is a half new cabinet so I think something all original would be better and I could sell or trade the rebuilt cabinet.

What do you guys think?

Keep the old rebuilt?
Go with the all original?

Kirk

Keep the cabinet that you like the best...

I typically prefer all original, but have kept a couple of cabinets I have redone because they turned out nice and I had a personal attachment to them.

Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift

Think anyone will have interest in a half new cabinet?

Hmmm, $10.00 in wood and veneer, $25.00 for the cabinet and $500.00 in labor Icon_lol

Oh and dont forget it fell off the table after photographing it so it has a little dent and a few chips... Icon_rolleyes

Anyone interested, Icon_lol

I would keep the one that you spent all the time to recreate intact.  After all, that is something to be proud of.  Put the other cabinet on the shelf for the time being until another chassis comes along or you get a good deal on a parts radio.  Then make another nice radio out of the two.  Once finished, keep them both or sell the one that you have the least attachment to.  Just my thoughts.

Original, to me .. is always nice.

I think I once saw a chassis of a 45 sold on its own.
You might be able to put together one more 45 and those go for a pretty penny.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Others have suggested that you keep the cabinet that you like the best...and I agree.

Model 45 and model 28 (the AC/DC version) come up for sale every so often. Keep an eye out for one, and then you can let go of the complete set that you like the least.
