Philco 70 detector coil
#1

I'm in need of a detector coil for my 70. The schematic calls it first detector transformer. Philco part number 03083. Can anybody point me in the right direction. Thanks!!

I think you may have a hard time finding one of those, unless you can find someone parting out a 70. And if you did find one, it would likely be open or fail very soon. This is a common problem. Usually though, it is the primary that is open due to corrosion and resulting in no plate voltage to the #24 RF tube. This coil can be rewound with some dexterity. See the information on this page. http://www.philcorepairbench.com/tips/svctip36.htm

If you decide not to rewind the coil, I think Ron still does these. See this page. http://www.philcoradio.com/rre/rewind.htm

Good luck with it.

Regards,

Ed

After a few months weeks or days, it may go bad as well. These coil are notorious for corrosion. You'd be better served rewinding it, or having Ron rewind it. The fee is small, and you get piece of mind of not having to work on it twice.

I'll probably get Ron to rewind the old one. Then I'll have one on standby.
