Speaker from a 116X to a 38-116?
#1

I haven't had time to do any research but does anyone know if the speaker from a 1936 model 116X console would work in a 38-116? I have a 38-116 that has a totally shot speaker in it. Was just wondering. I will do some research later.

Most speakers will, but 38-116 had some dual-type cone, with thicker middle responsive to high pitches and softer outer part. Otherwise, maybe mechanical etc but should work.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Philco used two different speakers during production of the 38-116. Both (W-4 and W-5) have identical specs. Both have 350 ohm fields.

The speaker used in the 1936 model 116B (U-9) has a 1450 ohm field.

So...the U-9 will not work in the 38-116.

You can find specs for all 1929-1936 Philco speakers here:

Go to the link, and download the file speakers.zip. Icon_smile
