38-116 chassis repair attempt
#1

I had posted the damage the chassis received in shipping. Thought I would try to fix it and see how it goes.

I disassembled the dial scale and band switch shadow plate to see if I could straighten out the bracket.
It took about 2 hours to get it to this point.

Had to drill out rivots to remove the rt. side upper bracket to straighten. Used small nut&bolts to reattach.
I spoke with Mark Oppat and he no longer has the dial scale and recommended trying to super glue the scale and shadow mask. Thats next and hopefully I will be able to save this chassis.

Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift

What I've done to fix the dial scale is use clear packing tape on the backside of the broken dial. Line it up good and tight and tape over it. Works great!

It looks worse in the pic than in person.

That band mask was the hardest to repair it was in three pieces.
Also reassembly was a four time try do to no reference to the dial scale and band mask as they broke off moving it around.
and that light mask at top of dial scale was really bent up along with the frame.

One last pic. I will be taking the whole assembly off the chassis as one unit and when done with the electrical clean lube and install .

I do have a question for anyone that knows. Looking at a schematic of chassis it shows a section called the IF expander.
 What is that exactly? Thanks

I don't know if you're interested but radiodaze does reproduce that dial:

Thanks Squire. Yes I seen they have one. I will wait till all done with rebuild to see what I will do about dial scale.
This one looks very challenging.
