Philco 39-40XX
#1

Is the 39-40 a decent performer? Have the chance to buy one for $20 that a guy wants out of his garage. It doesnt work but it is complete and in good shape. If something is serious wrong with it and I cant get it to work I figure all the parts are worth the $20. But if I did get it to work, is it compairable to my 40-180? I see that it uses #42 output tubes instead of #41 tubes like my 40-180. Stronger output circuits? Any thoughts?

Yah, an above average performer...well worth $20...you haven't bought it yet? Icon_wink

Kind of a bummer this morning. Contacted the guy and set up a time and place to buy it and then posted this question on the phorum. Then I got a text message about a half hour later saying that his wife had already sold it to someone earlier in the morning and didn't tell him about it. Kind of ruined my morning. I don't think the cabinet would have even needed to be refinished, it was that nice!
