Next up is working on the rust on tuning cap and chassis.  Taking the tuning cap off means also taking off the metal shields for the coils (I don’t think I mentioned it but the coils all seem to be good).

I ground off the top of the 3 rivets with a Dremel tool and the shield came off nicely.  This allows you to get to the 3 screw/lug connections and 2 soldered ground connections to the tuning cap.

Being somewhat klutzy, I put some plastic shields around the coils to protect them a bit from straying screw drivers and soldering irons.  Yes, I managed to melt some plastic in the process.

I took the dial off the tuning cap so I would be able to dunk the entire cap into the Metal Rescue de-rusting solution.  We’ll see how it comes out.
