Hi Simon,

I have thought about getting an R2000 for my collection as well - they have a great reputation.

Your radio could probably respond well to alignment, which would almost certainly correct the small frequency offset. Weird feedback could be an oxidised connector or something similar. One of my radios had a feedback issue that I traced to oxidation under a PCB shielding can - there was an intermittent contact that responded to audio vibration from the speaker.
