Unfortunately you have no choice but to remove the RF unit, and then it will be pretty clear to see how the oscillator section can be removed - it involves unsoldering wires from the tuning condenser plus removing a couple bolts in the front of the RF unit.

and look at the first several of the series of postings entitled "Philco model 38-690 Repairs" to see how a 37-116 RF unit comes apart. I completely rebuilt a 37-116 RF unit in that series, only to have it develop...a carbon track. I then rebuilt the 38-690 RF unit that was in the radio. I have yet to try it out.
