Piecing Together the 53-956

Never one to argue with Terry but I do believe you have the proper loop and the FM antenna is provided with the gadget clipped on to the A/C cord and terminates with the 2 prong plug. That plug looks like it would connect into a connector in the center of the loop? You may missing some wires going from that to the tuner section. I suspect the radio also had a hardboard back cover that the loop attached to on the inside of the board with the board itself screwed to the cabinet. Be nice to see a rear view of a complete radio to determine what the rear board looked like.
