Murf, did you try to realign the set again. When I got my 42-400 first running, the volume was only about half of what it should be. The very first adjustment I made on it was at that #4 IF can,(first thing on the adjustment procedures), and lo and behold, that was it. (it was 99% tight, but that final 1% tightening did the trick- kind of strange that it worked full bore tight. All bands functioned normally). Not saying that is your problem, but a little food for thought, maybe.
