Ron, my vote is to restore the chassis. Now, that is coming from someone that never buys anything that is very good!
Don't look it the chassis as a whole, but take it one aspect at a time.
I restored a 12S262 a couple of years ago for a lady I work with. I too had to replace the belt and yes, the shaft will have to come out. If I remember right, it wasn't too difficult.
