O man now I've done it, Philco 37-116
#32

Agree with everyone, the 37-116 is a very good set!

1. Recommend you spend 7.00 and purchase the package of info that Chuck provides for Philco sets. They are sharp, read-able copies and deal specifically with the model/code you are working on.

2. Mike is right on about "getting to know" your radio. I too will spend a fair amount of time examining the chassis and "how it works." This is time well spent.

3. Take a manilla folder and use it to diagram everything you take apart. Personally, I also draw the base diagrams of every type of tube used in my set at the top of the folder. This is a ready reference when you are tracing wire connections. I cannot over-emphasize the importance of diagramming!!
.
4. Re-stuff of bakelite blocks is definitely the way to go.

5. Electrolytic caps negative side is not always to ground.

6. It is worth the "pita" to remove the RF deck and totally re-cap. Be careful, as there are many very thin wires present.

7. Check resistors and replace IF out of spec. Personally, if it is greater than 10% off, I replace it.

Although you have chosen a difficult set to wok on, you CAN do it if you take your time and do it right. ASK QUESTIONS !!! You will find here on the Phorum some great people who will help you!!!
