42-1010 Question
#11

Hi Tony

Stude is right, the escutcheon on your 42-1010 is not original; and neither are the pushbuttons.

Those pushbuttons were used on the following 1942 Philco models: 42-327, 42-345, 42-365, 42-1008, 42-1009.

It appears to be very well made.

Now, it is *possible* that your 42-1010 might be one of the last ones made before Philco converted 100% to war work for the Government. It is further *possible*, given the font type of the decals and the apparent high quality of the escutcheon, that some of the final 42-1010 models may have left the factory with wood escutcheons and different pushbuttons.

Now, don't get all excited - this is merely a *possibility.*

Another *possibility* is that a repair shop who had, or knew of, a skilled woodworker, made that escutcheon for a customer, having access to the decals used on it and the non-original pushbuttons.

I have no way of proving either of these *possibilities.*

Stude's 42-1011 used to belong to me, and the escutcheon of his is the correct original type for the 42-1010 also. Sometimes I miss that radio...but then I am sort of glad it's gone, given the amount of room it took up. Icon_smile
