OK, this is embarrassing. I'm almost finished rewiring and recapping a 42-350 that I started before Christmas. I took notes and drew pictures where the wires went, but unfortunately left the speaker wires off of the drawings. I probably figured it would be easy to reconnect them to the secondary leads from the output transformer, so I didn't bother to draw them in.

That was true with the one of the leads, but the output transformer has only one secondary lead. The other is soldered right to the transformer frame and apparently grounds to the chassis through the rivets.

My question is: can I ground the other side of the speaker to any convenient ground, regardless of where it went originally? The two speaker leads are the same length and are tied together about 3 inches from the end, so they evidently terminated near one another. The most convenient ground terminals are the center pin of the rectifier tube socket and the ground pin of the Bakelite condenser.

What do you guys think? Will any convenient ground do? Is there any reference to where this wire went originally?

Lesson learned. Never again take apart a radio without using the digital camera!
