I had read someplace that due to the nicotin, age, dust, and dirt the original gold colour is now that darker or bronze or whiskey colour. The cure in that story was to brew up a batch of really strong coffee or dark tea and literally stain the cloth. Sadly I dont remember the details of how long or anything like that but it seemed like a good idea to me. Might be worth a couple small pieces to give it a try.
